Wonderful Citrus is seeking a Quality Control and Food Safety Supervisor II for its McAllen, TX location. Ideal candidates will develop and implement QC/QA programs for fresh-pack processes. Conduct audits of production facilities to ensure company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved. Responsible for implementing, managing, monitoring and verifying food safety in accordance with the company’s good manufacturing practices and good agricultural practices, standardized requirements, policies, and procedures. Function as an information source to management and various company departments when special and critical quality issues occur.

  • Ensure that all company Food Safety requirements are met
  • Attend all quality complaints from the customers and implement all procedures and methods to reduce the indicator of complaints
  • Implement methodologies of lean manufacturing or PDCA system to improve quality at the facility
  • Connection between customer, sales and operations
  • Apply, maintain and solve all audits from Primus, Organic and regulatory government inspections to obtain an approval certifications.
  • Implement program required by government to comply with food safety requirements in the facility
  • Implement Pre-requisites program and a HACCP program at the facility
  • Elaborate all risk analysis for operations
  • Administration for budget of facility and all supply tools
  • Follow up all corrective actions for deviation of quality and Food Safety through the system
  • Inform priorities to management for any deviation on quality & Food Safety
  • Participate and integrate actions plans and corrective actions on any customer complaints of food safety issues
  • Evaluate traceability system every 6 months to assure system is working properly
  • Participate on interaction with external suppliers and clients (transport, facilities, suppliers, R&D, sales, etc.)
  • Confirm that plant audit procedures are properly carried out and assigned work schedules are maintained
  • Evaluate and take corrective action when necessary regarding product date coding and trade age management at all levels of product movement.
  • Educate and instruct plant personnel in recommended QC testing, equipment and general sanitation as well as good housekeeping practices. Ensure these procedures are continuously maintained.
  • Consult with plant management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields.
  • Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other management staff to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
  • Provide and oversee inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
  • Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures
  • Maintain active role on internal Continuous Improvement teams.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree Food Science, Industrial Engineering, Business or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a food processing environment and/or combination equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Computer literate. Experience with Oracle or other SAP program desired.
  • Advance knowledge of food safety practices and GMPs required.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot equipment/process problems and propose solutions. Problem-solving skills are essential to this position.
  • Performs supervisory activities for direct reports, including but not limited to administering wage information and allocations, completing annual performance appraisals, developing and coaching staff as necessary, making staffing decisions, and representing staff interests to department management.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Bilingual, English and Spanish a plus, but not required.

  • TPS or Lean Certification preferred. Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.
